As a super-recent AmeriCorps VISTA alum, I thought the same thing ALL the time. Sure, I signed up to volunteer for a year and am happy to have done so, but the "living stipend" was hardly enough to live on. I'm being paid a small enough salary that it will be difficult to make ends meet. It makes me very angry that the higher ups make so much. The way nonprofits are organized, there are very few people at the top, so it makes sense they can take so much. But come on.
